Noahs Ark Story - Bible

Many years passed after God created the world. But the people on earth had become very bad. They thought only about doing evil things all the time. This made God very sad.

But there was one good man named Noah. Noah loved God and obeyed Him. God said to Noah, 'I am going to destroy all the people on earth because they are so bad. Build a big boat called an ark. Make it from cypress wood. Make rooms inside it and cover it with tar inside and out.'

God gave Noah the exact measurements for the ark. It was to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. That is longer than a football field! God told Noah to put a roof on the ark and to make three decks inside. He also told Noah to put a door in the side of the ark.

Then God said, 'I am going to bring a great flood of water on the earth. Everything on land will die. But I will make a covenant with you. You, your wife, your sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives will go into the ark.'

God also told Noah to take seven pairs of every kind of clean animal and one pair of every kind of unclean animal. He was to take seven pairs of every kind of bird too. He also needed to take every kind of food to eat.

Noah obeyed God. He did everything exactly as God commanded. The people watched Noah build the big boat. They probably laughed at him and thought he was crazy. It never rained on earth before. But Noah kept working and trusting God.

After many years, the ark was finally finished. Noah was 600 years old. God said to Noah, 'Go into the ark, you and your whole family. I have seen that you are a good man.'

Noah and his family went into the ark. The animals came to Noah, just as God had said. They went into the ark two by two, male and female. After seven days, the flood began.

Rain fell from the sky for forty days and forty nights. Water came up from the ground too. The water rose higher and higher. It lifted the ark off the ground. The water covered the mountains. Every living thing on land died. Only Noah and those with him in the ark were safe.

The water stayed on the earth for 150 days. Then God remembered Noah and all the animals. He sent a wind to blow over the earth, and the water began to go down.

The ark came to rest on top of a mountain called Ararat. Noah opened a window and sent out a raven. The raven flew back and forth until the water dried up. Then Noah sent out a dove. The dove could not find any place to rest, so it came back to the ark.

Seven days later, Noah sent out the dove again. This time, the dove came back with a fresh olive leaf in its mouth. Noah knew the water was going down! He waited seven more days and sent out the dove again. This time, the dove did not come back.

Noah removed the covering from the ark. He saw that the ground was dry. Then God said to Noah, 'Come out of the ark, you and your family and all the animals.'

Noah built an altar to thank God. He offered sacrifices to the Lord. God was pleased and said, 'I will never again curse the ground because of people. I will never again destroy every living thing as I have done.'

Then God made a beautiful promise. He put a rainbow in the sky. God said, 'Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my promise. The water will never again become a flood to destroy all life.'

The rainbow is God's sign of hope and promise. Every time we see a rainbow, we can remember that God keeps His promises and loves His creation.
