Crossing the Red Sea Story - Bible
Send Wishes with Message Magic in Your Language. The Israelites left Egypt in a great hurry. They took their bread dough before the yeast was added. They carried their bags on their shoulders. God led them through the desert toward the Red Sea.
During the day, God went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud. It showed them the way to go. At night, God led them in a pillar of fire. It gave them light so they could travel day and night. The pillar of cloud and fire never left them.
But Pharaoh changed his mind again. He said, 'What have we done? We have let the Israelites go! They will be our slaves forever!' So Pharaoh got his army ready. He took six hundred of his best chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt. They chased after the Israelites.
The Israelites looked up and saw the Egyptian army coming. They were very scared. They cried out to Moses, 'Why did you bring us to the desert to die? It would have been better to stay as slaves in Egypt than to die in the desert!'
Moses told the people, 'Do not be afraid! Stand firm and you will see the Lord save you today. You will never see these Egyptians again. The Lord will fight for you. You only need to be still.'
Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea. Divide the water so the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.'
The pillar of cloud moved behind the Israelites. It stood between them and the Egyptian army. The cloud brought darkness to the Egyptians but gave light to the Israelites. All night long, the Egyptians could not come near.
Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The Lord sent a strong east wind that blew all night long. The wind pushed the water back. The sea split in two! The water stood up like walls on the right side and the left side. The ground in the middle became dry.
The Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. Millions of people crossed over to the other side. The walls of water stood tall beside them.
The Egyptians chased after them. All Pharaoh's horses, chariots, and horsemen followed into the sea. Early in the morning, the Lord looked down from the pillar of cloud and fire. He threw the Egyptian army into confusion. Their chariot wheels got stuck. The Egyptians shouted, 'Let's get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them!'
Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over the sea so the water will flow back over the Egyptians.'
Moses stretched out his hand. At daybreak, the sea went back to its place. The water rushed back and covered all the chariots and horsemen. Not one Egyptian survived.
But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. The water was like a wall for them on both sides.
When the Israelites saw the great power of the Lord, they feared the Lord and believed in Him. Moses and the people sang a song to the Lord:
'I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted. The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea. The Lord is my strength and my defense. He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him!'
